According to media reports, Shiv Sena (UBT) thane politician Pradeep Purnekar was shot dead in his office in Manpada, thane at around 9.34 pm.
Since the office was small only one other person his former associate Papya Shinde was in the office.
The alleged shooters Nikhil Yadav and Kanojia fired six bullets out of which two hit Purnekar.
Though he was rushed to the hospital, Purnekar succumbed to his injuries.
Papya Shinde was allegedly arrested later, since the shooters did not fire at him, and he allegedly betrayed Purnekar.
The family of Purnekar has claimed that the former thane mayor, meenakshi shinde is involved in the murder.
The case is being investigated.
